Q: What is an APO or an FPO address?
APO/FPO Mail is U.S. domestic mail with a U.S. military delivery address that the Postal delivers to the Department Of Defense. This is mail that is being sent to military installations located outside the Continental United States (CONUS). APO/FPO shipments are centralized at certain locations such as San Francisco and New York for transport overseas. APO/FPO addresses are not international addresses. There is an assumption, that because the addresses reside in a foreign country, military mail goes through an international postal carrier. This is not so. APO/FPO mail goes through United States Postal Service-Priority Mail. Mail sent to APO/FPO addresses will go either to California, New York, or Florida before it is transported to the overseas military installations. APO/FPO addresses have a state.
These addresses use the following state abbreviations: AE (Armed Forces Europe), AA (Armed Forces Americas), and AP (Armed Forces Pacific).
Q: How do I enter my APO/FPO address?
For online orders, enter FPO or APO as the city. Instead of a state, choose "Outside the USA" and as the province enter "AE". Leave the country as United states and on the next page you will see domestic (USA) rates for USPS Priority and Express Mail rates. Do NOT enter Iraq or Afghanistan as the country or it will treat it as an international order charge more for shipping.
"AE", "AA" and "AP" The APO/FPO "states" of "AE", "AA", and "AP" are the only legitimate states to use for an APO/FPO addresses.
Q: How much does it cost to ship to an APO or FPO?
Same as domestic US Mail. The United States Post Office delivers APO and FPO mail to a military port, located on the East or West Coast of the United States, and the military takes over from there, transporting the mail via military cargo aircraft to the overseas location/Navy ship.
